This fun, striped crochet cowl pattern makes a perfect accessory for any season. Make it in a soft cotton yarn for spring and summer, or make it in a warm, cozy yarn for fall and winter. It’s super easy to crochet, so it’s a fantastic beginner crochet project!
Striped Crochet Cowl Pattern
Supplies
Approximately 200 yards total of worsted weight yarn. Below are some of my favorites:
Knit Picks Brava Worsted
Knit Picks Comfy Worsted
Knit Picks City Aran Tweed
Knit Picks Shine Worsted
Size K (6.5 mm) crochet hook
Yarn needle
Abbreviations
Ch: chain
St/sts: stitch/stitches
Dc: double crochet

Striped Crochet Cowl Pattern
Chain 38.
Row 1: Dc in 3rd chain from hook, *dc in next chain; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: *Dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn.
Repeat row 2 for a total of 7 rows (or the desired thickness of colored stripes).
Change to coordinating color.
Repeat row 2 for a total of 7 rows (or the desired thickness of colored stripes).
Continue in this manner, alternating colors until the piece measures approximately 34-36 inches (or desired length).
Do not fasten off.
Finishing
- Fold piece in half, matching up short ends of the cowl.
- Using the yarn that is still attached, slip stitch the two short ends together for the seam.
- Cut yarn and weave in ends.
