Spiral Hat Knitting Pattern
newborn to 3 months
Cast on 36 stitches evenly onto 3 or 4 double point needles.
Round 1-2: *K2, P2; repeat from * around. (36 sts)
Round 3-4: P1, *K2, P2; repeat from * around. End with P1. (36 sts)
Round 5-6: *P2, K2; repeat from * around. (36 sts)
Round 7-8: K1, *P2, K2; repeat from * around. End with K1. (36 sts)
Repeat rounds 1-8 once more, and then round 1 once more (or until the hat reaches your desired length). (36 sts)
Crown Section:
Round 18: *K2tog; repeat from * around. (18 sts) Round 19: *K next st; repeat from * around. (18 sts)
Round 20: *K2tog: repeat from * around. (9 sts)
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread onto a tapestry needle and pull through the remaining stitches to fasten off.
3 to 6 Months
Cast on 44 stitches evenly onto 3 or 4 double point needles.
Round 1-2: *K2, P2; repeat from * around. (44 sts)
Round 3-4: P1, *K2, P2; repeat from * around. End with P1. (44 sts)
Round 5-6: *P2, K2; repeat from * around. (44 sts)
Round 7-8: K1, *P2, K2; repeat from * around. End with K1. (44 sts)
Repeat rounds 1-8 until the hat reaches your desired length. (44 sts)
Crown section:
Next round: *K2tog; repeat from * around. (22 sts)
Next round: *K next st; repeat from * around. (22 sts)
Next round: *K2tog: repeat from * around. (11 sts)
Next round: *K2tog; repeat from * around. Knit last stitch. (6 sts)
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread onto a tapestry needle and pull through the remaining stitches to fasten off.
6 to 12 months
Cast on 48 stitches evenly onto 3 or 4 double point needles.
Round 1-2: *K2, P2; repeat from * around. (48 sts)
Round 3-4: P1, *K2, P2; repeat from * around. End with P1. (48 sts)
