Notes
- Chain 2 at beginning of rounds does not count as a stitch. When joining at the end of rounds, join to first stitch.
- The cape and hood are worked as one piece, with a single seam closing the hood.
- The size of the hood is customizable. If you’d like the tighter, more fitted hood, attach the ribbon ties further up toward the hood seam. If you’d like a looser, roomier hood, attach the ribbon ties further down away from the hood seam.
- BE SURE TO NEVER LEAVE A BABY UNATTENDED WHILE WEARING AN ACCESSORY SUCH AS THIS. ESPECIALLY IF YOU OPT TO INCLUDE THE OPTIONAL TIES.
Special Stitch
(Sc, hdc, dc) in the next stitch, skip the next 2 stitches.

Cape
Newborn to 3 months
Chain 45.
Row 1: (Sc, hdc, dc) in 3rd chain from hook, skip 2 chains, *(sc, hdc, dc) in next chain, skip 2 chains; repeat from * across to end, hdc in last st.
Row 2: Chain 2, turn. *(Sc, hdc, dc) in next dc, skip 2 sts; repeat from * across to end, hdc in turning chain 2 from the previous row.
Repeat row 2 until the piece measures approximately 13 inches long (or desired length)
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Hood
To make the hood, you will be sewing a seam along one of the short ends of the cape.
Match the sides/corners of one of the short ends of the cape and, using matching yarn, close the seam. To do this, you can either use the yarn and a yarn needle to sew the seam with a basic whip stitch, or you can use the yarn and a crochet hook and close the seam with slip stitches or single crochet stitches.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Optional Ties
Cut a piece of ribbon that is long approximately 24-36 inches long, depending on the size of the cape that you are attaching it to, or to your personal desired length for the ties.
Measure down approximately 6 inches from the top seam. Weave the ribbon in and out of the shell stitches, beginning at one front edge, working around the back, and ending at the other front edge.
Go ahead and whip one of these cute hooded blankets up for a new baby in your life. If you don’t happen to know any new babies right now, remember that they also make gorgeous photography props!
