Abbreviations
Ch: chain
St: stitch
Sl: slip
Sc: single crochet
Dc: double crochet
Hdc: half double crochet
Hdc2tog: work the next two stitches together as one (decrease)
Notes
- Chain stitches at the beginning of rounds do not count as a stitch. When joining the rounds, join to first stitch.
- The length, or amount of slouch that the hat has, can be easily adjusted to preference. If you’d like it shorter or longer/slouchier, then work fewer or more rounds where indicated.

Approximately 2.75 sts/inch & 2 rows/inch. Please check your gauge to ensure an accurate finished size.

Newborn Diaper Cover Crochet Pattern
Ch 39.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch, and in each ch across. Ch 2, turn. (38 sts)
Row 2: Dc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (38 sts)
Row 3: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (38 sts)
Row 4: Sl st in next 9 sts, ch 1, hdc in same st, hdc in next 21 sts. Leave remaining sts unworked. Ch 1, turn. (22 sts)
Row 5: Hdc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (22 sts)
Row 6: Hdc2tog, hdc in the next 18 sts, hdc2tog. Ch 1, turn. (20 sts)
Row 7: Hdc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (20 sts)
Row 8: Hdc2tog, hdc in the next 16 sts, hdc2tog. Ch 1, turn. (18 sts)
Row 9: Hdc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (18 sts)
Row 10: Hdc2tog, hdc in the next 14 sts, hdc2tog. Ch 1, turn. (16 sts)
Row 11: Hdc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (16 sts)
Row 12: Hdc2tog, hdc in the next 12 sts, hdc2tog. Ch 1, turn. (14 sts)
Row 13: Hdc2tog, hdc in the next 10sts, hdc2tog. Ch 1, turn. (12 sts)
Row 14: Hdc2tog, hdc in the next 8 sts, hdc2tog. Ch 1, turn. (10 sts)
Row 15-20: Hdc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (10 sts)
Row 21: Hdc in each st across. Ch 1, do not fasten off. (10 sts)
Continue to work around the piece by working sc sts around the entire diaper cover, putting 2 sc in corners. Join to beg stitch.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Finishing
Find a button, or two buttons, that are small enough to fit through the stitches of the band on the diaper cover, but large enough that it won’t pop out very easily.
Using matching or coordinating yarn, sew the button to the waistband very securely. You may also use two buttons, one on each side of the band, instead of one button in the center.
