This easy and free crochet headband pattern is a fun and elegant accessory. It’s perfect for those days when it’s not quite cold enough for a full winter hat, but when you still need something to keep the ears warm. Add the whimsical loopy flower, or leave it plain if that fits your style more appropriately. :-)
Supplies
1 Skein Loops & Threads Cozy Wool
A small amount of worsted weight yarn (flower)–Yarn pictured is Loops & Threads Impeccable
Size K crochet hook – headband
Size I crochet hook – flower
Yarn Needle
Button–small enough to fit through the stitches, and large enough to hold nicely
Abbreviations
Ch: chain
St: stitch
Sl: slip
Sk: skip
Sc: single crochet
2sc: work 2 single crochet stitches in the next stitch (increase)
Dc: double crochet
2dc: work 2 double crochet stitches in the next stitch (increase)
Dc2tog: double crochet two stitches together (decrease)

Free Crochet Headband Pattern
Chain 5.
Row 1: Dc in 3rd chain from hook, dc in next 2 sts. Ch 2, turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 2dc in first st, *dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 2dc in first st, *dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (5 sts)
Row 4: 2dc in first st, *dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (6 sts)
Row 5: 2dc in first st, *dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (7 sts)
Row 6: 2dc in first st, *dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (8 sts)
Row 7: 2dc in first st, *dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (9 sts)
Row 8: 2dc in first st, *dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (10 sts)
Row 9-14: Dc in first st, *dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (10 sts)
{NOTE: This is where you can adjust the length/size of the headband. If you’d like it shorter or longer, work fewer or more rounds.}
Row 15: Dc2tog in first 2 sts, *dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (9 sts)
Row 16: Dc2tog in first 2 sts, *dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (8 sts)
Row 17: Dc2tog in first 2 sts, *dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (7 sts)
Row 18: Dc2tog in first 2 sts, *dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (6 sts)
Row 19: Dc2tog in first 2 sts, *dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (5 sts)
Row 20: Dc2tog in first 2 sts, *dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (4 sts)
Row 21: Dc2tog in first 2 sts, *dc in next st; repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (3 sts)
Fasten off.
Attach the button to one end of the headband. Slip the button through the last row of stitches on the other end to secure.
Loopy Flower Pattern
With worsted weight yarn and a size I crochet hook, chain 2.
Round 1: 10 sc in 2nd chain from hook. Join to first st.
Round 2: *Ch 10, slip st in front loop of next sc; repeat from * around. Join to first sc from round 1, in the back loop only.
Round 3: 2sc in back loop only of same st, *2sc in back loop of next sc from round 1; repeat from * around. Join.
Round 4: Repeat round 2.
Round 5: Repeat round 3.
Round 6: Repeat round 2.
Round 7: Repeat round 3.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail to secure the flower to the headband.

I just can’t get the same count for the headband stitches, i.e., the 2nd row alone would total

…5 stitches, not 3. I’m not counting the 2 turn chains. What am I missing? Thank you.
