Fruit caps were all the rage a few years ago, remember? Well, it doesn’t matter how much time passes…this crochet cherry hat pattern is still cute!! It’s perfect for boys and girls, makes a great photo prop (as you can see!), and would be adorable for an everyday accessory.
Cherry On Top Crochet Hat Pattern
Supplies
Loops & Threads Charisma–true red, black
Size K Crochet Hook (or hook size needed to obtain gauge)
Tapestry Needle
Sizes
Newborn to 3 Months (14”)
3 to 6 Months (15.75”)
6 to 12 Months (16.75”)
Abbreviations
Ch: chain
St: stitch
Sl: slip
Dc: double crochet
2dc: work 2 double crochet stitches in the next stitch
Sc: single crochet
Gauge
Approximately 2.25 sts/inch.
Note
The chain 2 at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch. When joining at the end of rounds, join to first stitch.

Newborn to 3 Months
Ch 3. Join into a ring.
Round 1: Ch 2. 12 dc in ring. Join. (12 sts)
Round 2: Ch 2. 2dc in same space, *2dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (24 sts)
Round 3: Ch 2. Dc in same st, dc in next st, 2dc in next st, *dc in next 2 sts, 2dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (32 sts)
Round 4-7: Ch 2. Dc in same st, *dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (32 sts)(Note: This is where you can adjust the length of the hat. If you’d like it shorter or longer, work fewer or more rounds.)
Fasten off.
3 to 6 Months
Ch 3. Join into a ring.
Round 1: Ch 2. 12 dc in ring. Join. (12 sts)
Round 2: Ch 2. 2dc in same space, *2dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (24 sts)
Round 3: Ch 2. Dc in same st, 2dc in next st, *dc in next st, 2dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (36 sts)
Round 4-8: Ch 2. Dc in same st, *dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (36 sts) (Note: This is where you can adjust the length of the hat. If you’d like it shorter or longer, work fewer or more rounds.)

6 to 12 Months
Ch 3. Join into a ring.
Round 1: Ch 2. 12 dc in ring. Join. (12 sts)
Round 2: Ch 2. 2dc in same st, *2dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (24 sts)
Round 3: Ch 2. Dc in same st, 2dc in next st, *dc in next st, 2dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (36 sts)
Round 4: Ch 2. Dc in same st, dc in next 16 sts, 2dc in next st, dc in next 17 sts, 2dc in next st. Join. (38 sts)
Round 5-9: Ch 2. Dc in same st, *dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (38 sts) (Note: This is where you can adjust the length of the hat. If you’d like it shorter or longer, work fewer or more rounds.)
Fasten off.
Stem
With black yarn, ch 17.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, and in each ch across. (16 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for securing to the hat.
Using yarn tail and tapestry needle, secure stem to the top of the hat.
Weave in ends.
If you wish, tie the stem into a knot, or leave it as it is. :-)
If you’d like it to stand up a bit for photography prop purposes, weave a black craft pipe cleaner through the stitches of the stem.
