Free Cozy Button Cowl Crochet Pattern

Size K (6.5 mm) Crochet Hook
Two 1-1.5 inch buttons

Abbreviations
Ch: chain
St: stitch
Hdc: half double crochet
2hdc: work 2 half double crochet into same stitch (increase)
hdc2tog: half double crochet 2 stitches together as one (decrease)

approximately 2 sts/inch in half double crochet

Button Cowl Crochet Pattern
Ch 17.
Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch, hdc in each ch across. (16 sts)
Row 2-4: Ch 1, turn. Hdc in each st across. (16 sts)
Row 5: Ch 1, turn. Hdc in each st across to last st, 2hdc in last st. (17 sts)
Row 6: Ch 1, turn. 2hdc in first st, hdc in each st to end. (18 sts)
Repeat rows 5 & 6 until you have 30 stitches total.
Next row: Ch 1, turn. Hdc in each across. (30 sts)
Repeat last row until piece measures approximately 21″, finishing with a row that is ready to begin at the collar side.
Next row: Ch 1, turn. Hdc2tog, hdc across. (29 sts)
Next row: Ch 1, turn. Hdc across to last 2 sts, hdc2tog. (28 sts)
Repeat last 2 rows until 16 stitches remain.
Next row: Hdc in each st across. (16 sts)
Next row: Hdc in 3, ch 2, skip 2 sts, hdc to last 5 sts, ch 2, skip 2 sts, hdc in last 3 sts.
Next row: Hdc in 3 sts, hdc in 2 chs, hdc across to next 2 chs, hdc in 2 chs, hdc in last 3 sts.
Next row: Hdc in each st across. (16 sts)
Fasten off.
Sew 2 buttons to the end of the cowl that is opposite the buttonholes, and it’s ready to wear!
