CO: cast on
BO: bind off
PM: place marker

K: knit
P: purl
K2tog: knit two stitches together as one (decrease)

Approximately 3.5-3.75 sts/inch in stockinette stitch
Note
While you are working on this hat, it may appear to be very tiny. This is due to the nature of the stitch pattern that is being used. The 4×4 ribbing is very stretchy, and looks somewhat deceiving as far as size. Don’t worry—it will stretch to fit.

Easy Ribbed Hat Free Knitting Pattern
CO 48 stitches evenly onto 3 or 4 double point needles.
Being careful not to twist stitches, join with first stitch of round 1.
Round 1: *K4, P4; repeat from * around. (48 sts)
Repeat round 1 until piece measures approximately 5.5 inches.
Note: This is where you can adjust the length of the hat. If you’d like it shorter or longer, work fewer or more rounds before starting the decreasing for the crown.
Crown Section
Round 1: *K6, K2tog; repeat from * around. (42 sts)
Round 2: *K5, K2tog; repeat from * around. (36 sts)
Round 3: *K4, K2tog; repeat from * around. (30 sts)
Round 4: *K3, K2tog; repeat from * around. (24 sts)
Round 5: *K2, K2tog; repeat from * around. (18 sts)
Round 6: *K1, K2tog; repeat from * around. (12 sts)
Round 7: *K2tog; repeat from * around. (6 sts)
Cut yarn, thread onto a tapestry needle, and run through remaining stitches to fasten off.
Weave in ends.
