US 13 Single Point Needles (if you’d like to knit it flat with a seam)
US 13 Double Point Needles (If you’d like to knit it in the round without a seam)

Abbreviations
CO: cast on
St: stitch
K: knit
K2tog: knit two stitches together as one (decrease)
P2tog: purl two stitches together as one (decrease)
Notes
- If you make the hat on single point needles, you will finish with a seam.
- If you make the hat on double point needles, there will not be a seam.

Newborn to 3 months
Gauge
Approximately 2.25/sts per inch in stockinette stitch

Free Baby Hat Knitting Pattern
Single Point Needles
With straight needles.
CO 30 sts.
Row 1: *K next st; repeat from * across. (30 sts)
Row 2: *P next st; repeat from * across. (30 sts)
Repeat rows 1 & 2 for 12 rows total.
(Note: this is where you can adjust the length of your hat. If you’d like it shorter or longer, work fewer or more rows.)
Row 13: *K next st, K2tog; repeat from * across. (20 sts)
Row 14: *P next st; repeat from * across. (20 sts)
Row 15: *K2tog; repeat from * across. (10 sts)
Row 16: *P2tog; repeat from * across. (5 sts)
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail to weave in. Thread the yarn end onto a tapestry needle, and string it through the 5 remaining sts. Pull tight, and weave in the ends.

Being careful not to twist sts, join into a round. Place marker.
Round 1-12: *K next st; repeat around. (30 sts)

Round 13: *K next st, K2tog; repeat from * around. (20 sts)
Round 14: *K next st; repeat from * around. (20 sts)
Round 15: *K2tog; repeat from * around. (10 sts)
Round 16: *K2tog; repeat from * around. (5 sts)
