Abbreviations
K: knit
P: purl
St: stitch
Stockinette Stitch: knit on the right side, purl on the wrong side.
Gauge
Approximately 1.5-2 stitches/inch in stockinette stitch

Easy Knit Tote Bag
(Front/make 2)
Cast on 19 stitches.
Begin with a purl row and work in Stockinette stitch for 5 rows.
Row 6: Cast on 4 stitches and knit across.
Row 7: Cast on 4 stitches and purl across.
Row 8: Knit 4, place marker, slip 1 purl wise, place marker, knit to last 5 stitches, place marker, slip 1 purl wise, knit 4.
Row 9: Purl.
Repeat the last 2 rows 11 times.
Knit 6 rows in Stockinette stitch.
Bind off.
(Handles/make 2)
Cast on 9 stitches.
Purl 1 row.
Next row: Knit 2, place marker, slip 1, place marker, knit 3, place marker, slip 1, place marker, knit 2.
Next row: Purl.
Repeat the last 2 rows 17 times.
Bind off.
Finishing
Sew front & back together using mattress stitch.
Attach the handles to the top of the bag, trying to keep join hidden and invisible. It helps to pin them into place first, so that you can insure that the two handles are even on both sides.
Weave in ends.
