Ch: chain
Puff Stitch: (see stitch guide at bottom of pattern)
Sl St: Slip Stitch

Notes:
- You will end each round by joining to the beginning bean stitch.
- The ribbed band on the hat has a stitch design that “pulls in,” even with the larger number of stitches on the edging band. Keep that in mind while making the body of this hat, just in case it looks large.
Gauge
Approximately 1.25-1.5 stitches per inch, in Bean Stitch.

Yarn over, insert the hook below the chain. Yarn over and draw through. There will be 3 loops on the hook.

Yarn over, insert the hook below the chain. Yarn over and draw through. There will be 5 loops on the hook.

Yarn over, insert the hook below the chain. Yarn over and draw through. There will be 7 loops on the hook.

Yarn over and pull through all loops.

Bean Stitch Slouchy Hat
Ch 3. Join into a ring.
Round 1: Pull beginning loop up in center of ring, *bean stitch, ch 1; repeat from * around, and sc in beginning bean stitch to join. (6 puff sts)
Round 2: Bean stitch, ch 1, bean stitch, ch 1 in the same sp, *(bean stitch, ch 1, bean stitch, ch 1) in the next ch 1 space; repeat from * around, and sc in beginning bean stitch to join. (12 bean sts)
Round 3: (Bean stitch, ch 1) in the same sp, (bean stitch, ch 1, bean st, ch 1) in the next ch 1 sp, *(bean stitch, ch1) in the next ch 1 sp, (bean stitch, ch 1, bean stitch, ch 1) in the next ch 1 sp; repeat from * around, and sc in beginning bean stitch to join. (18 bean sts)
Round 4: (Bean stitch, ch 1) in the same space, (bean stitch, ch 1) in the next ch 1 sp, (bean stitch, ch 1, bean stitch, ch 1) in next ch 1 sp, *(bean stitch, ch 1) in the next 2 ch 1 sps, (bean stitch, ch 1, bean stitch, ch 1) in next ch 1 sp; repeat from * around, and sc in beginning bean stitch to join. (24 bean sts)
Round 5: (Bean stitch, ch 1) in same space, (bean stitch, ch 1) in next 2 ch 1 sps, (bean stitch, ch 1, bean stitch, ch 1) in next ch 1 sp, *(bean stitch, ch 1) in next 3 ch 1 sps, (bean stitch, ch 1, bean stitch, ch 1) in next ch 1 sp; repeat from * around. Sc in beginning bean stitch to join. (30 bean sts)
Round 6-15: (Bean stitch, ch 1) in same sp, *(bean stitch, ch 1) in next ch 1 sp; repeat from * around, and sc in beginning bean stitch to join. (30 bean sts)
DO NOT FASTEN OFF.
NOTE: This is where you can adjust the length of this hat. If you’d like it shorter or longer, work fewer or more rounds. Keep in mind that you will be adding on approximately 2 inches in edging rounds.
Edging
Round 1: Ch 1. Hdc in same st, hdc in next ch sp, *hdc in next st, hdc in next ch sp; repeat from * around. Join to first st. (60 sts)
Round 2: Ch 1. Fphdc in same st, bphdc in next st, *fphdc in next st, bphdc in next st; repeat from * around. Join.
Repeat round 2 for 2 inches.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Pom-Pom
Use a pom-pom maker, or any pom-pom making method of your choice, make a pom-pom and attached to the top of the hat with matching yarn.
