This cozy free crochet mittens pattern is very easy and fun to make. The style is elegant and classic so they can be embellished for a little extra oomph!

Abbreviations
Ch: chain
Dc: double crochet
Fphdc: front post double crochet
Bphdc: back post double crochet

Note:
1. You can slightly adjust the size of these mittens by changing the yarn weight and hook size. If you’d like smaller mittens, use a lighter weight yarn and a smaller hook. If you’d like larger mittens, use a heavier weight yarn and a larger hook.
Gauge
3 stitches/inch in double crochet

Crochet Mittens
Top of Mitten
Chain 2.
Round 1: 12dc in 2nd chain from hook. Join. (12 sts)
Round 2: Ch 1. 2dc in each st around. Join. (24 sts)
Round 3-10: Ch 1. Dc in each st around. Join. (24 sts)
NOTE: This is where you can adjust the length of the “fingers” portion of the mitten. If you’d like this section shorter or longer, work fewer or more rounds. The mittens pictured measure approximately 5.5 inches at this point.
Thumb Opening/Lower Half
Round 11: Ch 1. Dc in next 21 sts, chain 3, skip last 3 sts. Join. (21 sts, 3 chains)
Round 12: Ch 1. Dc in next 21 sts, dc in each of 3 chains. Join. (24 sts)
Round 13-14: Ch 1. Dc in each st around. (24 sts)
NOTE: This is where you can adjust the length of this portion of the mitten. If you’d like this section shorter or longer, work fewer or more rounds. Keep in mind that you will be adding rounds for the “cuff.”
Cuff
Round 15-18: Ch 1. *Fphdc around next st, bphdc around next st; repeat from * around. Join. (24 sts)
NOTE: This is where you can adjust the length of the cuff of the mitten. If you’d like this section shorter or longer, work fewer or more rounds.
Fasten off.
Thumb
Attach the yarn to any stitch on the thumb opening.
Round 1: Work 10 dc evenly around the thumb opening. Join. (10 sts)
Round 2: *Dc in next 3 sts, dc2tog; repeat from * around. Join. (8 sts)
Round 3-4: Dc in each st around. Join. (8 sts)
NOTE: This is where you can adjust the length of the thumb. If you’d like this shorter or longer, work fewer or more rounds.
Round 5: *Dc2tog; repeat from * around. Join. (4 sts)
Fasten off. Weave in all ends.
