Gauge & Sizing
Please remember that tension can differ for each person and can affect your overall gauge. If your gauge is not correct, then your sizes will not be correct. As long as you do have the correct gauge, your sizes will be correct – it’s all about the math. Also, just as personal gauge can affect the width of a stitch, it can also affect the length of a stitch, which affects the overall length of a hat. Hat length is somewhat of a personal preference, so use your judgment regarding what you like. If you need to add length, work more rounds. If you need to remove length, work fewer rounds.
Gauge: approximately 2.5-3.5 sts/inch. (This will vary slightly, depending on the size hook that you use.) PLEASE ADJUST HOOK SIZE TO OBTAIN THE CORRECT GAUGE.
NOTES:
- When joining at the end of rounds, join with a slip stitch to the first fpdc from the beginning of the round. These joins end up having a seamless effect, and very difficult to notice.
- This hat is shown with pearl embellishments. They were stitched on to the hat, after it was finished, with a needle and beading thread.
A PRINTABLE PDF version of this pattern is also available, and it includes 5 sizes from newborn to adult.

NOTE: If you’d like the bottom edge of the hat to “pull in” a little bit, you can use a hook that is a size smaller than what you used for the hat.
