Worsted Weight Yarn (small amount)
Size H Crochet Hook
Tapestry Needle
Abbreviations
Ch: chain
Sl: slip
St: stitch
Sc: single crochet
Dc: double crochet
Hdc: half double crochet

The chain 1 at beginning of rounds does not count as a stitch. When joining at the end of rounds, join to first stitch.
Easy Baby Shoes
Ch 8.
Round 1: 2hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next 4 chs, 6hdc in the last ch. Continue on the other side of unworked ch loops. Hdc in the next 4 chs, 3hdc in the last ch. Join to the top of the first two skipped chs.
Round 2: Ch 1. Sc in same st, sc in next 8 sts, (2sc in next st) 3 times, sc in next 9 sts. Join. (24 sts)
Round 3: Ch 1. Hdc in same st, *hdc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (24 sts)
Round 4: Ch 1. Hdc in same st, hdc in next 8 sts, (dc2tog) 3 times, hdc in next 9 sts. Join. (21 sts)
Round 5: Ch 1. Sc in same st, sc in next 7 sts, dc5tog, sc in next 8 sts. Join. (17 sts)
Fasten off.
Weave in ends.

I’m having trouble starting the crochet. If I count out the stitches for round 1 I only get 19 per the pattern. But round 2 requires 21 loops to crochet through so at the end of round to I have two more stitches I need to do before getting to the new round and no where to place them! Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong?
