Sizes
Newborn to 3 Months (13”)
3 to 6 Months (15”)
6 to 12 Months (17.75”)

Gauge
Approximately 2.5 stitches per inch in half double crochet. Please check your gauge and adjust hook size as needed.
Notes
- This hat is worked seamlessly. After round 1, place a marker and move it up as you work. You will join your work before the last round of the hat, and again before fastening off.
- There are two sizes for the ears — one smaller and one larger. I like to use the smaller ones on sizes newborn through 12 months, and the larger ones on the 12 to 24 months and up. This is my preference so you can choose what you prefer. :)

Black Cat Crochet Hat Pattern
Hat (newborn to 3 months)
Ch 2.
Round 1: 10 hdc in 2nd chain from hook. (10 sts)
Round 2: *2hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (20 sts)
Round 3: *hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (30 sts)
Round 4: *hdc in next 14 sts, 2hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (32 sts)
Round 5-9: *hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (32 sts)(Note: this is where you can adjust the length. If you’d like it shorter or longer, work fewer or more rounds.)
Sl st in next st, ch 1.
Round 10: Hdc in same st, *hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (32 sts)
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Ears (smaller hat sizes)
Ch 2.
Round 1: 4hdc in 2nd chain from hook. Join to first st. (4 sts)
Round 2: Ch 1. Hdc in same st, 2hdc in next st, hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st. Join to first st. (6 sts)
Round 3: Ch 1. 2hdc in same st, *2hdc in next st; repeat from * around. Join to first st. (12 sts)
Round 4: Ch 1. Hdc in same st, *hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (12 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail to secure ears to hat.
Using a tapestry needle and the yarn tail on the ear, secure ears to the top of the hat.
Ears (larger hat sizes)
Ch 2.
Round 1: 4hdc in 2nd chain from hook. Join to first st. (4 sts)
Round 2: Ch 1. 2hdc in same st, *2hdc in next st; repeat from * around. Join to first st. (8 sts)
Round 3: Ch 1. 2hdc in same st, *2hdc in next st; repeat from * around. Join to first st. (16 sts)
Round 4: Ch 1. Hdc in same st, *hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (16 sts)
Round 5 (Optional: if you’d prefer the ear to be a tiny bit taller): Repeat round 4.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail to secure ears to hat.
Using a tapestry needle and the yarn tail on the ear, secure ears to the top of the hat.
Hat (3 to 6 months)
Ch 2.
Round 1: 10 hdc in 2nd chain from hook. (10 sts)
Round 2: *2hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (20 sts)
Round 3: *hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (30 sts)
Round 4: *hdc in next 4 sts, 2hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (36 sts)
Round 5-10: *hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (36 sts)(Note: this is where you can adjust the length. If you’d like it shorter or longer, work fewer or more rounds.)
Sl st in next st, ch 1.
Round 11: Hdc in same st, *hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (36 sts)
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Follow directions for the ears.
Hat (6 to 12 months)
Ch 2.
Round 1: 10 hdc in 2nd chain from hook. (10 sts)
Round 2: *2hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (20 sts)
Round 3: *hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (30 sts)
Round 4: *hdc in next 2 sts, 2hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (40 sts)
