Notes
- Chain stitches at the beginning of rounds do not count as a stitch. When joining at the end of rounds, join to first stitch.
- The hip measurement is slightly larger than the waist. This allows the option of having the drawstring or omitting it.
- The length of these little pants is easily customizable. You can make them shorter, or even into shorts, just by working fewer rounds. If you’d like them longer, even long enough to cuff the bottoms, work more rounds.
- Please remember that these are average sizes/ages. Not all babies are the same size, weight, and length. Because the rise and length are easily adjustable, you can make those adjustments quickly and easily.
- The length of the rise shown is assuming that you will be putting these pants over a diaper. If you are a photographer who will be using the pants without a diaper, you may want to make the rise a little bit shorter.

Chain 37.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd chain from hook, and in each chain across. (36 sts)
Being careful not to twist this row of stitches, join them into a circle by making a slip stitch into the first sc from this row. You will now be working in rounds.
Round 2-3: Ch 1. Sc in same st, *sc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (36 sts)
Round 4: Ch 2. Dc in same st, dc in next 4 sts, 2dc in next st, *dc in next 5 sts, 2dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (42 sts)
Round 5: Ch 2. Dc in same st, *dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (42 sts)
Repeat round 5 until pants measure approximately 6 inches.
NOTE: This is where you can adjust the “rise” of the baby pants. If you’d like to allow for more room to accommodate a thick or double diaper, then you may choose to work more rounds here.
Divide for legs
Leg 1
Count 21 sts around half of the pants, and join with a slip stitch to that stitch.
You will now be working the legs using half of the stitches for each one.
Round 1: Ch 2. Dc in same st, *dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (21 sts)
Repeat round 1 until the leg measures approximately 4 inches or the desired length.
NOTE: These little baby pants look adorable in a shorter “Capri” style.
