This seed stitch headband free knitting pattern is a quick and fun project! It uses a chunky yarn and big knitting needles so you can finish one in no time. It includes a fun knit flower pattern, too, just in case you want to embellish your headband. Make one for the whole family because it’s a perfectly suitable accessory for anyone, including kids, women, and men.
Seed Stitch Headband Free Knitting Pattern
Supplies
Super Bulky Weight Yarn. Here are a few of my favorites:
Tuff Puff; a warm and cozy 100% wool yarn
The Big Cozy; a luxurious blend of alpaca and wool
Mighty Stitch Super Bulky; an easy-care blend of acrylic and superwash wool
A small amount of worsted weight yarn (Flower)
Size US 13 Needles; 16” Circular Needle or Double Pointed (Headband)
Size US 8 24” circular (Flower)

CO: cast on
St: stitch
K: knit
P: Purl
K2tog: knit 2 stitches together as one (decrease)

Free Seed Stitch Headband & Flower Knitting Pattern
Baby
With size US 13 needles, cast on 34 sts.
Being careful not to twist the stitches, join into a round for round 1.
Round 1: *K1, P1; repeat from * around.
Round 2: *P1, K1; repeat from * around.
Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until the piece measures approximately 4 inches (or desired thickness).
Cast off in pattern.
Cut yarn and weave in ends.
Child
With size US 13 needles, cast on 40 sts.
Being careful not to twist the stitches, join into a round for round 1.
Round 1: *K1, P1; repeat from * around.
Round 2: *P1, K1; repeat from * around.
Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until the piece measures approximately 4.5 inches (or desired thickness).
Cast off in pattern.
Cut yarn and weave in ends.
5T to Adult
With size US 13 needles, cast on 44 sts.
Being careful not to twist the stitches, join into a round for round 1.
Round 1: *K1, P1; repeat from * around.
Round 2: *P1, K1; repeat from * around.
Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until the piece measures approximately 5 inches (or desired thickness).
Cast off in pattern.
Cut yarn and weave in ends.
Adult Large
With size US 13 needles, cast on 48 sts.
Being careful not to twist the stitches, join into a round for round 1.
Round 1: *K1, P1; repeat from * around.
Round 2: *P1, K1; repeat from * around.
Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until the piece measures approximately 5.5 inches (or desired thickness).
Cast off in pattern.
Cut yarn and weave in ends.
Knit Flower Pattern
With worsted weight yarn and size US 8 circular needle, cast on 105 sts.
Row 1: Purl each st across.
Row 2: *K5, k2tog; repeat from * across. (90 sts)
Row 3: Purl each st across.
Row 4: *K4, k2tog; repeat from * across. (75 sts)
Row 5: Purl each st across.
Row 6: *K3, k2tog; repeat from * across. (60 sts)
Row 7: Purl each st across.
Row 8: *K1, k2tog; repeat from * across. (40 sts)
Row 9: Purl each st across.
Row 10: *K2tog; repeat from * across. (20 sts)
Row 11: Purl each st across.
Row 12: *K2tog; repeat from * across. (10 sts)
Row 13: Purl each st across.
Row 14: *K2tog; repeat from * across. (5 sts)
Cast off, leaving a long tail to sew flower together.
The longer edge of the piece will be the outer side edge of the flower, and the shorter edge will be towards the inside. Roll the piece into a flower shape, and using the attached tail, sew the piece together by taking stitches through all layers to secure it. Add a button to the center. Attach the flower to the headband.
