Gauge
Approximately 2-2.5 stitches per inch in half double crochet
Note
- This hat is worked seamlessly. Place a marker after round 1, and move it up as you work.
- To achieve the look of the stitches in the hat from the photo, simply turn the hat inside out. If you like the traditional look of the half double crochet stitch from the “right side,” then simply leave the hat right side out.
- Please keep in mind that the hat sizes are based on average ages/head sizes.

Ch 3. Join into a ring.
Round 1: 10hdc in the ring. (place marker)
Round 2: *2hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (20 sts)
Round 3: *hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (30 sts)
Round 4: *hdc in next 14 sts, 2hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (32 sts)
Round 5-9: *hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (32 sts)

Sl st in next st, ch 1.
