Chain 6.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd chain from hook. *Sc in next st; repeat from * across. Chain 1, turn. (5 sts)
Repeat row 1 until the piece measures approximately 5 inches long.
{NOTE}: You can adjust the size of the bow tie by making this piece longer or shorter. A longer piece will make it larger, and a shorter piece will make it smaller.
DO NOT FASTEN OFF.
Fold piece in half, short ends together.
Insert the hook into the stitch that was just made, and then through the stitch that is directly across from it on the other short side of the tie. Yarn over, and pull through both stitches, yarn over, and pull through last loops.
Continue in this way, in remaining stitches, until you reach the end of the piece.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Knot
Center the seam at the back of the bow tie. Pinch the bow tie in the center. Use matching yarn, and wind the yarn around the pinched center section until you are happy with the size of the knot. Cut the yarn and thread the end onto a tapestry needle. Secure the end underneath the knot several times. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Neckband
Use matching yarn, and make a chain that measures the desired length.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
NOTE: This is where you can adjust the length of the chain so the bow can be worn as a headband instead. Make the chain long enough to fit around the head, plus a couple of extra inches to allow it to be tied/secured.
Weave the length of the chain through the knot of the bow tie, allowing even lengths on both sides. To fasten the bow tie onto the baby/child, simply tie it into a bow in the back.
IMPORTANT: Never leave a baby or child unattended with this bow tie. Supervision is suggested anytime the tie is being worn.
What I really like about this crochet pattern is that it is perfectly suitable for girls of any age also. I mentioned in the pattern directions that you can make this into a bow headband too. If this is made with an elegant yarn, even a fashionable lady could wear one!
