This incredibly easy free crochet infinity scarf pattern features a fun technique to make beginning a project super simple. It’s the foundation double crochet, and if you haven’t tried it yet give it a go–I think you will enjoy it!
With the foundation double crochet, you are basically working the beginning chain and the first row of double crochet at the same time. This allows you to be able to decide on your preferred length of a piece, while you are working that first row. That comes in very handy with many types of projects–especially infinity scarves!
Here is a written direction to the Foundation Double Crochet:
Foundation Double Crochet: Chain 3. Yarn over, insert hook in 3rd chain from hook, yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 1 loop (1 chain made), [yarn over and draw through 2 loops] 2 times — foundation double crochet. Yarn over, insert hook under 2 loops of chain at bottom of stitch just made, yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 1 loop (1 chain made), [yarn over and draw through 2 loops] 2 times. *Yarn over, insert hook under 2 loops of chain at bottom of stitch just made, yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 1 loop (1 chain made), [yarn over and draw through 2 loops] 2 times. Repeat from * as needed.
