Note

The chain 2 at the beginning of rounds does not count as a stitch during the first 3 rounds. When joining at the end of rounds, join to first stitch. For rounds 4-14, the chain 2 does count as the first stitch, and you should join to that at the end of rounds.

Newborn Lacy Cocoon

Ch 3. Join into a ring.

Round 1: Ch 2. 12dc in ring. Join.

Round 2: Ch 2. 2dc same st, *2dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (24 sts)

Round 3: Ch 2. Dc in same st, 2dc in next st, *dc in next st, 2dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (36 sts)

Round 4: Ch 2. (1dc, ch1, 2dc) in same st, skip 2 sts, dc in next st, skip 2 sts, *(2dc, ch1, 2dc) into next st, skip 2 sts, dc in the next st, skip 2 sts; repeat from *. Join with a slip st in the top of ch 2.

Round 5: Slip st in first dc, sc in chain-1 space, chain 3, (dc, ch1, 2dc) in same chain-1 space, skip 2 sts, sc in next st, skip 2 sts, *(2dc, ch1, 2dc) in next chain-1 space, skip 2 sts, sc in next st, skip 2 sts; repeat from * around. Join with a slip st in the top of ch 2.

Round 6: Slip st in first dc, sc in chain-1 space, chain 3, (dc, ch1, 2dc) in same chain-1 space, skip 2 sts, dc in next st, skip 2 sts, *(2dc, ch1, 2dc) in next chain-1 space, skip 2 sts, dc in next st, skip 2 sts; repeat from * around. Join with a slip st in the top of ch 2.

Repeat rounds 5 and 6 four times each. This will bring you to the end of round 14. If you’d like your lacy cocoon longer, continue on for the desired length.

Round 15: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Join.

Fasten off.
